For those of you who are interested in the OpenMoko, you should be pleased to know that Sean Moss-Pultz has posted the release schedule today on its community mailing list. If you haven't heard about the OpenMoko yet, it is an open source, Linux-based FIC Neo1973 Smartphone.
The schedule is as follows:
- 2007-02-11 Phase 0: Developer Preview
They will give away free phones to selected members of the developer community and the full source code to the OpenMoko Linux Distribution will become publicly available.
- 2007-03-11 Phase 1: Official Developer Launch
The Neo1973 will be sold for US$350 plus shipping, specifically targeting open source community developers.
- 2007-09-11 Phase 2: Mass Market Sale
Online sales will continue and the phone will also be available in a retail stores and selected carriers around the world. The 2nd generation OpenMoko device will also be introduced at this time.
