I have been "addicted" to Minecraft for the past few months.
Minecraft is a Java-based video game in which the player is given an open world to explore. Within your world you can build structures, mine, navigate subterranean caverns, and fight off a variety of monsters.
A lot of people look at Minecraft and immediately dismiss the game's value simply because the world it uses relatively simple graphics. However, If you wanted a great example that showcases the fact that gameplay is far more important than fancy graphics, then you do not need to look any farther this game.

I figured I would help spread the word about a new Tremulous server that was recently set up by Stythys & Daenyth, a couple members of the Arch Linux community, since there was some interest expressed on the forum.
If you enjoy playing Tremulous and want to play against fellow GNU/Linux users, you can access the server by pointing your client to twilightlair.net:53311.

Gamepark Holdings recently unveiled their newest model of the Linux-based GP2X hand-held.
I had held off from posting about it while I waited for more information to appear, but since a promotional video surfaced on YouTube today I figured it was time to weigh in on the GP2X-F200.
The F200 appears to be a nice upgrade and incentive for those who do not yet have a GP2X.

If you enjoy home brew games and utilities, you might be interested to find out that the entries for the GBAX 2007 Coding Competition are now available for you to download.
There was an excellent turnout this year with a total of 60 entries for the DS, PSP, GP2X, and GP32 hand-held systems. It was definitely not a surprise to discover that the majority of entries were for the GP2X.

I finally got around to purchasing the GP2X, a Linux-based hand-held game console and media player.
I have wanted to acquire one for a long time and I now realize that I should have bought it a long time ago.
It is a great product and has a great community behind it as well. I foresee myself mostly using the GP2X for playing my favorite console (e.g., NES, Sega Genesis, etc.) games on the go via emulators. Interestingly enough, that seems to be what most people use it for as well..

Have you ever noticed that while newer video games definitely have superior graphics compared to the old days not many of them seem to have the same kind of replay value as the older games?
As most can attest to the video game industry has lost touch with itself ever the years and sacrificed game play for pretty graphics with a few exceptions.
I love my PS2 but I find that I always tend to return to the true classics such as Pac Man, Missile Command, Centipede, etc. on my Atari 5200, the Super Mario Bros series on my NES, and games like Chrono Trigger on the SNES.
